As electric vehicles (EVs) become more mainstream, and drivers become more comfortable with their somewhat more limited driving range and the tradeoffs of vastly improved fuel and maintenance and emissions costs, Philadelphians are learning that EVs also bring the gift of reserved rock star street parking right in front of the home.
This Society Hill installation is typical, and in this tough-to-park neighborhood, the parking benefit is significant.
Thanks, too, to West Philly Tool Library (WPTL), whose construction and excavating tools stepped up to the job nicely. WPTL is a community-run not-for-profit resource for Philadelphians. Their $20-50 sliding scale annual membership gets you borrowing privileges for many tools, borrowed free for a week at a time. The annual membership is less than the minimum transaction cost of just about any conventional tool rental. I borrowed a concrete mixing tub, hoe, pickaxe, shovels, trowels, and high quality push broom. I picked it all up on the way home one day, and dropped it all off at my convenience the following Saturday.
