Now that spring has sprung, you may feel the need to get out and clean the gutters. Yes spring fever and/or cabin fever gets us in the mood to get outside and do something, even cleaning the gutters. To do this needed chore, you'll be needing a good, secure ladder to reach the gutters.
Ladders should be examined for defects like cracks, splinters, missing anti-slip feet, loose parts and foot boards, or defective locking parts, before using a ladder. Be sure to choose the right size ladder for the job. There is never a reason to be standing on the top or second from the top step of a ladder! If the job is that high, get a taller ladder or don't do the job! With any job requiring a ladder, ladder safety should be observed, especially if electricity is involved.
There are many different types of ladders and they are made of different materials. Step ladders are often used around the house and also extension ladders for the higher areas. Then there are those handy two and three foot step, platform ladders that have that handy platform to stand on, just right for reaching the upper cabinets, dusting light fixtures, and painting rooms.
Ladders are also used for doing electrical work and working near power lines and services. It may be you are shingling your roof, painting the outside of your house, or changing the pole light on the utility pole, but there are often electrical dangers in the area you are going to be working. Metal ladders should never be used when dealing with electricity. Always choose a nonconductive ladder made of wood or fiberglass. Whatever ladder you choose, be sure to observe ladder safety.
