The breakouts beneath this (distribution) and above (electrical and power contractors) are for February, as BLS is almost one month behind on the narrower data.
For construction, however, there were numbers given for MARCH. Here on EleBlog, we like to look at “field personnel” — or, as the BLS has it “production and nonsupervisory employees.”
Construction’s total of that in March = 4,089,000 (subject to revisions in the coming two months).
- That’s up 3.2% from February 2012.
- It’s up 2.6% from January 2013.
- It’s the best March since 2009.
But don’t get enthusiastic – not just yet: March 2006 and March 2007 both came in with the same BIG number in this category = 5,587,000.
That’s almost 1.5 million MORE construction workers in those years than were employed last month!
