Motor Shipments In Q1 Show No Impact of Bad Weather

Strangely enough. Remember, horrible, unusually bad weather is given the blame for the horrible, unusually bad Q1/14 GDP number (-2.9%).

So why are motors the exception? No one can answer, unless we’re gearing up for a gangbusters Q2/14……

From NEMA’s report:

On a year-over-year basis the index is up 2.8 percent, and has more than regained territory lost during the previous three consecutive quarters. Shipments of fractional horsepower motors led the way with an increase of 37 percent (q/q), while integral horsepower motors grew at a more modest rate of 7.6 percent (q/q).

Of course, the NEMA Motor numbers (above) would look better if you just got rid of those pesky years 2006, 2007, and 2008.
